Fredrik Ullén was born in 1968 in Västerås, Sweden. Ullén has performed as a soloist in contemporary and classical/romantic literature in a large number of international music festivals, with outstanding critical acclaim. Ullén’s large and constantly growing repertoire includes many of the most complex and demanding works in the piano literature: apart from music of Sorabji, for example works by Ligeti, Ferneyhough, Stockhausen, and George Flynn. A major Sorabji-related recording project is the ongoing recording of Sorabji’s complete 100 Transcendental Studies for BIS Records, Ullén’s main record company. He has a particular interest in creative programming with couplings of new and traditional literature. His solo CDs have been enthusiastic praised by internationally renowned critics and have received an impressive number of prestigious awards and accolades, including among others Diapason d’Or, CHOC de Le Monde de la Musique, Stern des Monats (FonoForum), Recommendé (Repertoire), and Recomendado (CD Compact). Ullén enjoys chamber music and appears regularly, for example with percussionist Jonny Axelsson and cellist Judit Csatószegi.
