Tellef Johnson, pianist

© Tellef Johnson
Of Norwegian heritage, Tellef Johnson was born 26 October 1977 in Blacksburg, Virginia and was a champion of the arts from an early age. During his college days Johnson wrote a symphony with noted humorist Garrison Keillor, won numerous prizes for his chamber works and as an advocate of unusual piano repertoire, performed Sorabji’s Piano Sonata No. 2 and Piano Sonata No. 3 to much success in North America.
At the turn of the 21st-century, Johnson returned to filmmaking, an obsession that occupied him during his early teenage years. This presented him with the opportunity to compose music to his own images from his own original screenplays. With his wife and collaborator, producer Reka Leszay, Tellef is currently in pre-production for his début feature film which has been several years in the making.
Johnson divides his time between his hometown of Brookings, South Dakota and Los Angeles, California.
